Dear colleague,
On behalf of the Scientific Steering Committee it is my great pleasure to welcome you in Barcelona for the 6th Symposium on Lysosomal Storage Disorders.
More than 15 years after the first infusion of a Gaucher patient many Lysosomal Storage Disorders (LSDs) have become treatable. A new paradigm is evolving; disease management. Considering the history of rare diseases, LSDs have never before experienced such a tremendous momentum as they do today. The advancement in LSD treatment has created an opportunity to establish a broader network for physicians and health care providers to discuss the new research and study outcomes that impact patients’ lives.
This sense of urgency must be a reality to all of us, and should focus us on the best interests of patients. Both treatment goals and treatment of the underlying primary pathology issues should be discussed at an early stage of the disease to prevent serious outcomes and organ damaging.
The 6th Symposium on Lysosomal Storage Disorders will address these aspects of Lysosomal Storage Disorders. Global experts will share their knowledge and experience during this one and a half day meeting. Many of you, distinguished physicians and scientists, will submit abstracts and/or posters and thus contribute to our further understanding of the LSDs.
I am looking forward to your active participation and I welcome you in Barcelona!
